Adventure

The Summer Adventure Program allows participants to experience the wonderful wilderness of the Seacoast Area, the White Mountain National Forest and beyond under the guidance of experienced, well trained summer staff. Mountain biking, rock climbing, canoeing, boogie boarding, surfing, hiking, camping and more are all available with trips for beginners and those more advanced.

Trips are generally one day, although we offer several overnight experiences for both middle and high school students. Trip size is limited at 13 participants with at least 2 staff and pre-registration is required.

All Adventure trips have costs associated with them, some adventure trips may require participants to arrange their own transportation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

Our program is open to students entering the 6th grade, through 12th grade. It is targeted to students in the communities of Portsmouth, Newington, Rye, Greenland, New Castle, North Hampton, York, Eliot, and Kittery. Residents of other communities will be considered on a case-by-case basis as staff and resources allow.
Students with special needs are welcome at New Heights. Please contact Deb Hampton at (603) 422-8235 ext. 106 to make the arrangements required to enable a successful experience.

What is the behavior policy?

It is our goal to provide a healthy environment for all participants. New Heights has a clear, consistent behavior policy, which is outlined in our Parent Information Guide. In essence, we ask participants to respect themselves, others and our environment by following the rules and instructions given during trips/activities, and using appropriate language. Inappropriate behavior will be addressed immediately. Consequences may include participants being sent home, restricted from transportation, and/or suspended from future trips without a refund. Open communication is encouraged between staff and parents. Please call with your questions and concerns.

Do you offer financial assistance for families?

The New Heights Teen Center and Adventure programs have a sliding fee system which subsidizes and scholarships most income levels. Payment in full is expected one week prior to attending a Teen Center session. If payment is not received one week prior to Teen Center session, participant will be removed from session. Payment for Adventure trips is due by June 16th. If payment is not received by June 16th participants will loose their space on the Adventure Trip. If you have difficulties paying the full balance we offer payment plans. Please call to discuss this issue with the Director or Assistant Director as soon as possible.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Regarding Refunds: There are no refunds for the Teen Center program once that session has started. Occasionally, New Heights adventure trips may need to be cancelled. While we will attempt to reschedule for a later date this is often extremely difficult. Participants may choose an alternative activity for the day, or receive a refund or credit. Regarding cancellations: We require at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel an adventure trip. Some of our trips have wait lists; if you have given 48 hours notice you will receive a credit for a future trip. Regarding late/no-show participants: Participants are expected to arrive for all trips and activities on time. We cannot wait for latecomers. If a participant is late for an activity and it has gone, s/he will not receive a refund.

Is there a registration deadline for New Heights programs?

New Heights programs remain open until filled. While there is no deadline to register for programs, space is limited and programs will close once capacity is reached. Adventure programs: For the best chance of getting your top choices, be sure to register by April 18, 2008.
If you should have additional questions or need further clarification please call (603) 422-8235.
