“New Heights elects new board at first annual meeting”
Portsmouth, NH—7/14/10—New Heights, formerly a program of Seacoast Mental Health Center for more than 20 years, recently elected its Board of Directors at its first annual meeting as an independent nonprofit organization.
Dennett Page, who boasts extensive professional volunteer experience with deep ties to the greater Seacoast region, was elected President. Additional executive appointments include Vice-President Lindsay Josephs of the Endowment for Health; Treasurer David Splaine, partner in the Ellis Insurance Agency, Inc in York, Maine; and Secretary ML Geffert of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton.
Tracey Tucker, Executive Director at New Heights, cited the diverse nature and experience of its Board as crucial to New Heights’ future.
“There is no doubt they have already made an impact on how we envision ourselves as an organization and how we’ll go about things moving forward,” said Tucker. “Their expertise and strong ties to the community are huge assets for us.”
Tucker also noted changes to their programming.
“This fall, we’ll be adding obesity prevention workshops that focus on one of the biggest concerns facing our youth today,” she said. “It’s important we develop programming that directly addresses the needs of the Seacoast. These workshops, which will involve parents, too, represent an important first step in our growth as an organization.”
According to Board President Dennett Page, New Heights must assume a strong leadership role in the community.
“As a Board, it is our job to help New Heights grow and assert itself as a leader in quality out-of-school programming,” said Dennett. “I think it is also very important for us to be mindful that New Heights is much more than a resource for kids. We’re here for the entire community and our programs in the coming months and years will reflect that.”
Serving more than 500 youth annually, New Heights’ mission is to assist Seacoast youth to develop the competence, character, confidence, and resiliency necessary for a healthy and successful adulthood.
